General Dentistry in Woodville
Check-ups, cleans, fillings, extractions and the everyday care that keeps small problems small — for the whole family, on Port Road.
General dentistry for every need
What general dentistry covers
General dentistry is the routine, unglamorous work that makes up most of what we do: examinations, professional cleans, fillings, extractions, root canal treatment, crowns and dentures. It’s the care that catches a problem while it’s still small and cheap to fix, rather than after it’s woken you at 2am. Adelaide Dental Solutions is a family practice at Suite 1, 850 Port Rd, Woodville South, and we see patients of every age — often several generations of the same family.
Looking after your teeth and gums makes the rest of dentistry simpler and less expensive. That’s the honest argument for regular visits: not fear, just arithmetic.
What happens at a check-up
An examination takes about half an hour. We look at each tooth, check existing fillings and crowns, examine your gums, and screen the soft tissues of your mouth, cheeks and tongue. We’ll usually take X-rays if it’s been a while, because decay between teeth and problems below the gumline don’t show up any other way.
Then we tell you what we found in plain language, and set out what needs doing in order of priority — what’s urgent, what can wait, and what we’d simply keep an eye on. You’ll get an itemised written quote before any treatment begins.
Fillings and restorations
When decay has got into a tooth, the damaged part is removed and the space restored. Most of our fillings are tooth-coloured composite resin, which bonds to the tooth and is far less noticeable than the amalgam fillings many people grew up with. Where a tooth is too broken down for a filling to hold, a crown may be the better option — and with our CEREC system we can design and mill some ceramic restorations in a single visit, which saves you a second appointment and a temporary crown.
When a tooth has to come out
We’d always rather save a tooth than remove one, and we’ll tell you honestly when a tooth is worth saving and when it isn’t. Where extraction is the right call, we’ll explain what’s involved, what recovery looks like, and what your options are for filling the gap afterwards — including leaving it alone, which is sometimes a perfectly reasonable choice.
Nervous about coming in?
Plenty of people are, and plenty of our patients haven’t seen a dentist in years. There’s no lecture and no judgement. If dental anxiety is what’s been keeping you away, our page on sedation and dental anxiety sets out what we can do to make a visit easier.
What it costs
We don’t publish set fees, because what’s needed varies so much between people. After your examination you’ll receive an itemised written quote with dental item numbers, so your health fund can tell you exactly what it rebates before you commit to anything. We treat patients from all health funds, and eligible children can be bulk-billed under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule — see our children’s dentistry page.
